It is an endoscopic technique to view inside the tracheobronchial tree (wind pipe). Various techniques like biopsy and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) are used to obtain samples for laboratory analysis. It is usually performed under local anesthesia and mild sedation, to make the patient comfortable. It helps in definitive microbiological diagnosis of TB and to rules out drug resistant tuberculosis.
